Allbäck Purified Raw Linseed Oil
Allbäck has produced this premium purified raw linseed oil for use as a wood finish. Applied to clean dry wood, this all-natural oil will soak in and "polymerize" or dry deep in the surface of the wood to produce a stain, rot, and water-resistant finish.
Ideally it should be applied in multiple coats until the wood does not soak up any more oil, then all residual oil should be wiped off with a rag before leaving to cure. For better penetration especially high traffic areas that are receiving many coats, it is advisable to thin the first coat or two with a non-toxic citrus solvent. Gum turpentine is an acceptable solvent for outdoor areas. Heating the oil to 60ºC can also improve penetration.
This product is also perfect for combining with our Auson Swedish Pine Tars for an excellent durable weather-resistant outdoor wood finish!
Surface may be used gently as soon as the final coat of oil has completely soaked into the wood and is dry to the touch, but raw linseed oil is a very slow drying oil, and a full cure/polymerization may take several weeks depending on humidity and temperature. To reduce cure times, boiled linseed oil can be used.
WARNING!!! Rags soaked in linseed oil have been known to spontaneously ignite because of heat produced during the cure. Soak rags in water before disposing of them, or spread outdoors on a non-combustible surface.
